Let's Talk!

Little Fuss

Little Fuss is an art-pop duo consisting of Olivia Martinez and Cody Von Lehmden, a pair who bond over the strange daily humors of their little life in Boston, MA. After forming during the pandemic, the band broke onto the scene with their free flowing live energy and restlessly creative perspective on pop music.

The release of their 2021 debut EP, Hazy, saw the band exploring the outer peripheries of their sound. Their single, “Human of the Century,” perfectly embodies the dichotomy of their music, with inquisitive lyrics set against cinematic arrangements.

With their upcoming debut album, Girls at Parties set to be released in early 2023, Little Fuss has gotten meticulously specific with their exploration of the detailed aesthetic they feel embodies their sound. Drawing from a wide range of influences, from David Bowie and Kate Bush to a once-scandalous Paul Cezanne painting, Girls at Parties seeks to inject a rich variety of musical and lyrical content into a 9-track pop album.

Little Fuss Debut New Single Ahead of Boston Calling Music Festival

Boston, MA – Little Fuss, a collection of shy creatives hoping to take their introverted perspectives and write songs that make them loud enough to hear, have released “What’s It Matter To You,” the second single from their upcoming Lovely Distraction EP, set to be released later in 2023. One of the first songs Little Fuss wrote together, back when Olive Martinez and Cody Von Lehmden first met in Spain, highlights the narrator’s nonchalant demeanor regarding the imminent demise of the relationship.

“I had never been in a relationship or anything at that point,” Martinez admits, “but I just thought there was something funny about this girl singing about how she was sort of disinterested in her love life.”

The 60’s-sounding track, which you can stream or download now, launches just hours before the band’s appearance at Boston Calling Music Festival. Earlier this week, Little Fuss spoke with CBS Boston about playing the hometown event. They’ll appear on the Tivoli Audio Orange Stage from 6:55 to 7:35 pm tonight.

The Boston-based foursome announced the news of their forthcoming EP, Lovely Distraction, alongside the release of “Hypothetical Girl.” A sarcastic call to arms that demands the redemption of women who, all too often, have been objectified by their male observers, “Hypothetical Girl” is a fiery display of resistance to simplistic tropes of femininity that aims to reclaim agency over dull, reductive portrayals of women.

Both tracks highlight the signature storytelling style of Little Fuss, who use vintage-tinged soundscapes to take their listeners on a profoundly emotional psychological journey that explores the perspectives and experiences of the protagonists they create. Known for delving into themes of sorrow, apprehension, subjugation, sexism, and other matters concerning mental health and sociology, Little Fuss often explores deep and thought-provoking topics. Their lyrical inquisitiveness is paired with cinematic arrangements that aptly reflect the duality of their music.

Both “What’s It Matter To You” and “Hypothetical Girl” stays the course of Girls At Parties, the album that helped fuel their most successful year to date and highlight the creative versatility of Olive Martinez and Cody Von Lehmden, the founding duo behind Little Fuss, and new arrivals Delia Martin and Vitor Oliveira, as artists and storytellers.

Their outspoken songs have caught the attention of both fans and the media, gathering champions at Wonderland, Billboard, 1883 Magazine, The Big Takeover, Boston Globe, CBS Boston, Ones To Watch, and Boston’s NPR station, WBUR, which credited the band with writing “complex female characters into pop songs” in their premiere of “I Want A Secret.” As a result, the band confirmed an appearance at Boston Calling Music Festival and collected a Best New Artist Nomination at the Boston Music Awards.

Little Fuss Releases Debut Full-Length Girls At Parties, Share “She’s A Liar” Official Music Video

Boston, MA – Indie art-pop outfit Little Fuss have released their debut full-length, Girls At Parties. The album perfectly embodies the dichotomy of their music, with inquisitive lyrics set against expressive arrangements. A collection of 90’s-esque power-pop-twinged tracks that serve as a searing commentary on grief, anxiety, and other internal conflicts while swirling vividly around the misery of the songs’ specific protagonists, the cinematic, ten-chapter concept album is a profoundly emotional psychological journey that explores the perspectives and experiences of nine apprehensive, interconnected characters navigating social gatherings.

Helping Little Fuss launch their most successful year to date, Girls At Parties highlights the creative versatility of Olive Martinez and Cody Von Lehmden, the founding duo behind Little Fuss, and new arrivals Delia Martin and Vitor Oliveira, as artists and storytellers. Zooming in on subjects often swept under the rug, like unrequited love (“Guardian Angel”), women's experiences in our modern patriarchal society and the lack of equality (“A Modern Olympia”), and negative mental spirals (“She’s A Liar”), Girls At Parties has helped Little Fuss take their introverted perspectives and write songs that make them loud enough to hear. Their outspoken songs have caught the attention of both fans and the media, gathering champions at Billboard, 1883 Magazine, The Big Takeover, Boston Globe, Ones To Watch, and Boston’s NPR station, WBUR, which credited the band with writing “complex female characters into pop songs” in their premiere of “I Want A Secret.” As a result, the band confirmed an appearance at Boston Calling Music Festival and collected a Best New Artist Nomination at the Boston Music Awards.

Alongside the release of the album, the band revealed a new video for the previously released single, “She’s A Liar,” which was inspired by the short story Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The story follows a woman who is berated and gaslit by her husband to the point where she begins a downward spiral of stress, anxiety, and the feeling of insanity after interacting with a version of herself within the walls. Both Girls At Parties and the video for “She’s A Liar” and available for streaming now. You can watch Little Fuss continue to thrive in 2023 by following them on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok at @LittleFussBand.
